Who runs kiez

kiez.guide is run by hicMonsters Criações LTDA (CNPJ 18.038.734/0001-25), São Paulo, Brazil. Contact: [email protected].

Visitors

No account, no tracking cookies, no ad pixels. To count visits we store page views and clicks with a pseudonymous key made from your IP address and browser, salted with a value that changes every day, so we cannot follow you across days. We also keep the country your request comes from (from Cloudflare), device type, browser, screen width and referring site. Raw IP addresses are not stored.

If you're outside Berlin and leave your email and city to hear when kiez comes to you, we use them for that one message and nothing else.

Near me works in your browser: the distances are worked out on your device, and turning Near me on sends us nothing.

Your location, if you say yes

kiez can ask to use your location to improve your suggestions. Only if you say yes, and only while kiez is open on your screen (when you open it, then at most every 10 minutes, never in the background), we store your exact position, how precise it was and the time, with your account or, signed out, with a random identifier from your browser. We use it to put what's near you first and to learn which parts of town you go out in.

It is never shown to anyone and never shared, and we delete it after 90 days. Turn it off or delete it any time: in You when signed in, or here on this browser.

After a night out

After a night you saved or were going to, we may ask how it was, once. Your rating, or that you didn't make it, is kept with your account or browser identifier; a rating also counts as having been to the venue. You can also say you've been to a venue and whether you liked it.

The few words you add are private. They are never shown to anyone else and never in any export but your own download; we only use them to pick keywords from a fixed list (such as "great cocktails" or "cosy"), and a venue shows a keyword only once three or more people said it. A venue shows how many people have been and, from three answers, the share who liked it, never who. Delete your words any time in You.

Events you save stay in your browser, in a cookie shared by kiez.guide and its subdomains (such as bcb.kiez.guide). When you save something we also keep a random identifier with the saved event ids, so we can count saves; it is not linked to your name or email.

If you sign in

We keep your email, the name, handle and photo you choose, your answers from the first steps, the events you save, mark as going or hide, the venues and people you follow, who follows you, your privacy choices and the places you suggest. We use them to run your account and to suggest events.

Who sees what

Your saves and hidden events are only yours. Your email is never shown.

Your profile (kiez.guide/@your-handle) shows your name, handle, photo and how many people follow you and you follow, to anyone with the link. It also shows the venues you follow and what you do at night, unless you turn either off in Privacy. People who are signed in can find you by name or handle.

The venues you've been to show on those venues' pages to the people who can see where you're going, by the same rule.

Where you're going is shown to your friends (people you follow who follow you back) on the events they look at. In Privacy you can show it to everyone who follows you instead, or to nobody. Invisible mode hides all of it, including what you marked before.

A night you make (kiez.guide/n/…) can be opened by anyone with its link, which is random and never listed: it shows the stops, who's in and, to the people in it, the stops they suggest. Your friends see that you're making one by the same rule as your going. Joining a night marks its stops as going for you; leaving lets you keep them as saves.

The venue in your night badge shows only once its owner on kiez, or we, confirm you work there. We never sell or share your data.

Download everything we have about you (follows, privacy choices, location history and your words included) or delete your account at any time in You. Deleting removes your account, marks, follows in both directions, the nights you made and your place in others', your location history, ratings, venues you've been to and words, and your photo; usage stats stay without your name.

Sign-in emails are sent through Mailgun. Questions: [email protected].

Venues

We list events that venues announce publicly on their websites, Instagram and event platforms. Venue owners who sign up give us their email address (and, if they choose, permission to send them news). Sign-in links are sent by email.

Instagram connection

A venue can connect its Instagram account. We then receive an access token (stored encrypted) that lets us read the account's own posts — captions and images — to list its events. We never post, comment, message or read anything else. Disconnect any time from your dashboard; the token is deleted immediately.

Processors

Cloudflare (network and DNS), Hostinger (servers, Brazil), Anthropic (reading public event posts to extract dates and times, and the words people leave about a venue to pick keywords), Scrape Creators (fetching public Instagram posts), Mailgun (sign-in emails).

Retention

Location: 90 days. Usage statistics: 13 months. Venue accounts and Instagram tokens: until you delete or disconnect them.

Your rights

You can ask for access, correction or deletion of your data at [email protected]. If you are in the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority. See data deletion.

Berlin's on. Are you?

kiez is only in Berlin for now.

Leave your email and your city. We'll tell you when it comes to yours.
